Dr. Sammy Eghbalieh

Dr. Eghbalieh is trained in revolutionary wound healing treatments for aggressive limb salvage, including endovascular and surgical repair of blocked arteries using cutting-edge medical devices to prevent amputation. He is an expert in the field of treating severe cases of diabetic foot ulcerations and critical limb ischemia (CLI). Many patients come to Dr. Eghbalieh seeking a 2nd opinion where they have been told amputation is their only option.

Dr. Eghbalieh practices the latest endovascular methods for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) repair and is recognized among his peers as a pioneer in challenging cases, often receiving referrals from other surgeons. Unique to Dr. Eghbalieh, he incorporates advanced intravascular ultrasound imaging (IVUS) in his AAA/ TAA cases to ensure the best surgical results. He also serves on the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Trauma team where he treats severe, emergency aortic dissections.

Dr. Eghbalieh was the founder of the TCAR (Trans-Carotid Artery Revascularization) program at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. He is one of the few surgeons in Southern California that specializes in this minimally invasive carotid procedure. He offers a collaborative approach to treating carotid disease and was a key contributor to the development of the comprehensive stroke program at Providence Holy Cross.

Additionally, he has expertise in venous disease with advanced training in Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), May Thurner Syndrome (MTS) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). He uses multiple innovative techniques for treating venous disease and clot removal. Dr. Eghbalieh has expertise in treating challenging cases with the most advanced thrombectomy devices.

Dr. Eghbalieh champions a team approach when it comes to treating his dialysis patients with renal disease. He works closely with the patient’s nephrologist, caregivers, and dialysis centers to ensure the best possible outcomes. There are few surgeons in Southern California with more experience than him in advanced fistula creations and dialysis access. His team is available 24/7 to these patients.

Dr. Eghbalieh completed his undergraduate degree at UCLA and finished among the top 5 students of his graduating class to be awarded “Bruin of the Year.” He later attended the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA-Drew Medical Education Program. After medical school he completed his general surgery residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Connecticut, an affiliate hospital of Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Eghbalieh also received his postdoctoral research fellowship in vascular surgery at Yale School of Medicine. His postdoctoral research and received national recognition and publications. After his time at Yale, he was one of the lucky few applicants to be awarded a fellowship in vascular, endovascular, and minimally invasive vascular surgery at the highly competitive and world-renowned Albany Medical Center Vascular Surgery Department.

He is well respected among his peers and collaborates with leading medical device companies to help train other physicians in his advanced limb salvage techniques. Additionally, he trains physicians internationally on his carotid approach with the latest procedure.

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Eghbalieh enjoys biking, spending time with family and traveling.
